O Produtor, tasting note published in May 21st 2021

An intense and concentrated aroma, highly complex, originating from grapes from low-yield plots, combined with the maximum expression of the purity of fermentation with indigenous yeasts and alcoholic fermentation in cement tanks with malolactic fermentation in used barrels. Impactful, an explosion of licorice, black fruits, and spices, in harmony with very discreet barrel notes. On the palate, very structured with voluminous tannins, hinting at great bottle longevity, yet can be enjoyed now.

Beyra

The Beyra Garrafeira Tinto is the result of very limited production and is only produced in years of exceptional quality.

In Beira Interior, between the schist soils of the Douro River basin and the granite soils of the surrounding mountains, there are many veins of quartz, allowing better soil aeration, lower nutrient retention, low yields, and fundamentally better sunlight exposure due to the reflection of sunlight by quartz, favoring ripening. This is a unique combination for the development of indigenous grape varieties in old vines, already perfectly adapted to the rigors of climate and soil, as is the case with Tinta Roriz and Jaen. This ‘terroir’ gives rise to wines that are fresh, lively, with intense aromas, but also finer and more balanced.

Origin: Grapes sourced from old vines in Vermiosa, planted in clay-schist soils, in the heart of the Douro International Natural Park, at an altitude above 800 meters.

Vinification: Hand-harvested grapes, partial destemming upon reception, and immediate crushing. Natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts in cement tanks without temperature control, followed by malolactic fermentation in barrels.

Ageing: 18 months in French oak barrels, followed by bottle ageing for 36 months.

Rui Roboredo Madeira Vinhos

In one of the most remote areas of the Iberian Peninsula, on the border between the Douro Superior and Beira Alta regions, it was among family that its passion grew for the aromas and smells of this land that shapes our character.
After coming into contact with many cultures of living and making wine, in various parts of the globe, Rui Madeira returned to the great Douro valley convinced that they have the potential to make the best wines in the world.
Out of respect for nature, due to the way we cultivate their vineyards and wines reflect his experiences, which smell and taste of land, of schist, damp granite, rock rose, wild flowers and fruit.
It is in the winery that he makes wines with the character of our ‘terroir’, expressed through native grape varieties, which instil with a style of their own and an international profile.
