Robert Parker, tasting note published in July 12th 2020

Glaetzer blended 18% Cabernet Sauvignon into the Shiraz to give the wine greater fragrance and length. The nose is smoky, slightly herbaceous and marked by sweet cedar oak and vanilla, but also offers big cassis and berry fruit. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated, the flavours are well controlled by fine-grained tannins. This wine has it all: fantastic intensity, complexity, length and texture.

The Glaetzer Anaperenna is a perfect fusion of the two varieties Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. Voluptuous, opulent yet refined, with a very long and satisfying finish.

The name Anaperenna was inspired by Anna Perenna, the Roman goddess of the New Year. Anna Perenna symbolises the cycle of the year and her name translates as “”enduring year””. The Romans honoured Anna Perenna with a festival held on the first full moon of the Roman calendar. On 15 March they asked Anna to grant them longevity, and a healthy year for every glass of wine they drank that day.

Fermented in 1 and 2 ton open fermenters, hand dipped 3 times a day. Matured for 16 months in 100% new oak barrels (92% French and 8% American) and matured on lees to maintain the fruit profile and liveliness. Bottled unfiltered to ensure minimal intervention with the wine’s natural characteristics. The resulting 2018 wines are of exceptional quality, displaying intense depth of colour, stunning aromatic purity plus richness and brilliance on the palate.

Glaetzer Wines

The first Glaetzers settled in the Barossa Valley in 1888 after emigrating from Brandenburg, Germany. The family left Germany aboard the steamer Nord-Deutscher Lloyd “”Habsburg”” and took seven weeks to reach their final destination of Port Adelaide. From here they settled in a rural town called Nuriootpa in the Barossa Valley where they began their new life in Australia. The family were some of the oldest recorded wine growers in the Barossa Valley and Clare Valley.

More than a century later, winemaking patriarch Colin Glaetzer established Glaetzer Wines, a boutique family-owned winery that produced premium Barossa Valley wines. Today, Colin’s son Ben carries on the winemaking traditions at Glaetzer Wines. Indeed, it was the birth of Glaetzer Wines that signalled a new era for Colin’s family, who are more than proud of their share of winemakers.
