Baga Friends
Seven producers, passionate about the Baga grape and the Bairrada region, came together and created Baga Friends. They are: Luís Pato, Filipa Pato, Quinta das Bágeiras, Quinta da Vacariça, Quinta de Baixo/Niepoort, Sidónio de Sousa, and Vadio.
It is a heterogeneous group that complements each other, where each producer creates diversified wines, following different oenological paths, seeking new, more classic or modern versions, but always maintaining a connection to the authenticity of the region, the grape, and the expression of quality and potential. For red wine Baga Friends, each contributed with their best Baga.
With the Mondego River to the south, the Vouga River to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and the Caramulo and Buçaco mountains to the west, Bairrada, a demarcated wine region since 1979, has unique characteristics today, with a predominance of clayey soils, a climate tempered by the Atlantic Ocean, and the cultivation of indigenous grape varieties such as Baga. The Cértima River is the region’s lifeline, running from the southern tip to the largest natural lagoon on the Iberian Peninsula, the Pateira de Fermentelos.
Planted in clayey soils, with excellent sun exposure, Baga produces in large quantities, small clusters with late maturation, and stands out for producing wines rich in tannins, high acidity, intense in color, with a high concentration of aromas, and that age well.
