Alion
Alión comes from carefully selected terroirs located in the best areas of the DO Ribera del Duero region. The vineyard covers 70 hectares, with an average age of 40 years, spread across Padilla de Duero, Valbuena de Duero, and Pesquera de Duero, with a planting density of 2,222 plants per hectare.
The different soils complement each other, and, combined with the vinification process used at Vega Sicilia, result in wines with a firm structure.
The 2020 vintage was drier than previous ones until the harvest. The grapes were very healthy, but heavy rains in September impacted the harvest and diluted the fruit. It was necessary to wait for the grapes to reconcentrate their flavors before proceeding with the harvest, resulting in wines that are more vertical, balanced, and fresh. The advanced polymerization of the skins allowed us to increase the proportion of American oak used by 4%. The use of concrete vats contributed to enhancing the wines’ verticality and freshness.
“The elegance of this wine is already evident on the nose. Fresh red fruit, well-defined, delicate, and not opulent. Very fine tannins, well-present but discreet acidity, serving as the foundation for the immense structure the wine has (yet barely noticeable),” Revista de Vinhos, 2019 vintage.
