O Produtor, tasting note published in December 22nd 2021

The appearance is marked by a wonderful dark purple rim and great depth of colour. The aroma is fine and moderate, with primary notes of dark fruits and some spices. The true style and potential of this wine come together on the palate, with a wonderful integration of dark fruits and a grainy tannic structure; an extraordinary balance between volume and elegance, resulting in an impressive finish. In short, the primary fruit in the mouth may be appealing at this stage, but it is the balanced tannic structure that indicates the great ageing potential of this wine in the future.

Niepoort

Speaking of wines from the north of Portugal and not mentioning the Niepoort family is almost impossible. This family of Dutch origin” lives “on the banks of the Douro for over 170 years: it was in 1842 that the first Niepoort arrived in Portugal. But it was necessary reach the fifth generation so that Dirk Niepoort has tasted the “Port of Closest Perfection.” Every year is remembered for distinct and unique reasons, and 2019 will certainly be remembered as a year with incredible natural musts, balanced acidity, and very cool weather, reminiscent of the elegant 2008 – the perfect conditions in which the Niepoort style flourishes! All components of the 2019 Vintage were trodden in granite presses with 100% stalk. The wines were racked shortly after harvest, aging in the Douro in casks over the winter. They were then transferred in March 2020 to the cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia.

Niepoort Vinhos

The Niepoort family has been creating Port Wines since 1842. The first property in Douro was bought in 1987 and Dirk Niepoort started a new Era in the company with the creation of the first Redoma red in 1991. In the last years Niepoort took on the great challenge of interpreting other soils and climates and acquired two properties in other regions, Dão and Bairrada. Discover the Niepoort Triangle which express the different terroirs: Schist (Douro), Limestone (Bairrada) and Granite (Dão).
