Vinha, tasting note published in May 27th 2019

Appearance dark red, fresh, floral aroma, initially with some Appearance dark red, fresh, floral aroma, initially with some exuberance and a suggestion of black plums and blackberries. On the palate, vinosity is at the forefront of this wine and although medium-bodied, it has a fantastic length with smooth, grainy tannins and excellent black fruit, leading to a seductive, fresh and acidic finish. This LBV is ready to be savoured and will become more complex with further ageing over two decades.

Niepoort

The year 2018 will be remembered for intense heat and historically low precipitation levels. Despite the dry weather, flowering and budding developed under favourable conditions and in August and September, high temperatures during the day and cool at night allowed an even and gradual ripening. The decision to start harvesting early, at the perfect moment of ripeness, allowed the grapes to be received in ideal conditions with fantastic natural acidity. The harvest in the Vale de Mendiz winery began on 24 August under perfect weather conditions, with the musts showing intense colour and strong character. The last grapes were picked on 26 September.

Niepoort Vinhos

The Niepoort family has been creating Port Wines since 1842. The first property in Douro was bought in 1987 and Dirk Niepoort started a new Era in the company with the creation of the first Redoma red in 1991. In the last years Niepoort took on the great challenge of interpreting other soils and climates and acquired two properties in other regions, Dão and Bairrada. Discover the Niepoort Triangle which express the different terroirs: Schist (Douro), Limestone (Bairrada) and Granite (Dão).
