O Produtor, tasting note published in March 28th 2022

This 2018 Late Bottled Vintage Port reveals a distinctive aromatic profile, typical of Graham's. Predominant notes include blackcurrant and blackberry, complemented by secondary hints of dried mint leaf, eucalyptus, and a subtle touch of licorice. The purity and freshness of the fruit are remarkable, and the characteristic floral notes of rock rose, a wildflower thriving in the Douro, also stand out.

Graham's

The production of this wine took place using grapes sourced from four vineyard estates of Graham, strategically located in various prime sites in the mountainous Douro Valley. The year 2018 was marked by specific climatic conditions that resulted in notably low yields, providing exceptional quality to the wines of that year.

Abundant spring rains were crucial in replenishing soil water levels, putting an end to one of the longest recorded drought periods in the Douro. Despite the intense heat and dryness in August and September, which reduced the size of the crop, these conditions favored excellent ripening, especially for Touriga Franca, a late-ripening variety that made a significant contribution to this Graham’s LBV.

After harvest, the wine matured in barrels in Graham’s 1890 lodge for six years before being bottled and ready for consumption. Late Bottled Vintages, as the term implies, are bottled later than classic Vintage Ports, the latter after two years.

It is recommended to enjoy this wine on any occasion. It pairs wonderfully with dark chocolate desserts and semi-cured to cured cheeses such as Cheddar and Manchego. Once opened, the wine will preserve all its fine properties for up to six weeks.

Symington Family Estates

There is a natural affinity between wine and family. Long-term vision and commitment through many generations are essential for the success of a family wine company. A newly planted vineyard takes time to produce great wines and often requires a lifetime’s work to yield best results. The Symington family, with Scottish, English and Portuguese ancestry has been present in the Douro for five generations — since 1882 — and through the current generation’s great grandmother, the family’s links to the wines of the Douro span 14 generations, to the mid-17th century and to the very beginnings of the history of Port.
