O Produtor, tasting note published in March 10th 2023
With a brownish colour, it is a complex and intense wine on the nose, with notes of dried fruits, figs, wood and spices. In the mouth it is very balanced, fresh, with a flavour of dried fruits, almonds, figs and honey. The finish is long and persistent.
Furada Tawny Family Port is an old port wine in which the year is unknown, we only know it was produced with the grapes of the old vineyards of Quinta da Furada, where numerous traditional varieties of the Douro region are planted. The old vines are worked manually from pruning to harvesting which usually takes place in September.
The grapes were fermented in our traditional granite lagares, where we estimate that the extraction work was done by foot treading for 2 to 3 days before the addition of
brandy. The wine then aged for many years in casks and then in chestnut barrels.

Quinta da Furada
Furada is a farm that has belonged to the same family for at least seven generations. The present descendants are the trinkets of its heir Valério Augusto de Sousa, who saw his first son born in the house, in 1919, still inhabited today. Born in 1888, he often said that his wife had inherited from his grandparents the present houses with vineyards and olive groves surrounding them, but to which, and by the will of Phylloxera, he added another 24 sorts, by buying from 24 small neighboring landowners, then disappointed with the effects of this almost fatal disease for the Douro.
Thus enlarging Quinta da Furada which has since remained one, keeping secrets, stories, flavours and mysteries. Proof of the search for the unveiling of the secrets of this farm, and what ended up giving it its name, were the holes found in the property that denote the search for wolfram, still from Roman times.
