Douro Boys
Presenting the group’s Port blend, Cristiano van Zeller, from Van Zellers & Co, mentioned the decision to make a tawny style on this occasion, in contrast to the vintage expressions created for the Douro Boys’ 10th and 15th anniversaries. “We discussed an ’02 vintage and a 20-year-old tawny,” he recalled, “but in the end we decided to make the best blend of very old tawnies, depending on the best wine available in our stocks.”
The result features components from 1860, 1930, 1960, 1992 and 2000. “Trial and error, that’s how we work,” said van Zeller about the blending process. “We reflect and go back until we’re all satisfied.

Douro Boys
What began as a group of friends has flourished into a globally acclaimed project. Since 2003, these five winemakers have been working together with one goal in mind: although the Douro Valley is mainly famous for its traditional Port wines, the Douro Boys realised early on that their dry red and white table wines are also fantastic.
Together, they aim to show the world the potential of table wine and their incredibly beautiful region and “put them on the international wine map”.
As many wine connoisseurs already know, the high quality of Douro wines is indisputable. What makes the ‘Boys’ so successful in communicating their vision is the way they all pull together with enthusiasm.
