Horácio Simões

This muscatel was made in the year in which the great-grandson of the house’s founder was born. That same year, in Portugal, there was a revolution so this muscatel was kept in 10 and 15 litre glass jars and in some paraffined brown barrels,
This way it was guaranteed that the wine would not be lost and would remain hidden from everyone’s view. About the winemaking method we only know that the ancestral processes were used. On the 95th anniversary of the founder’s son, as it was a special occasion for the family, this wine came to the table and all members were amazed by the Muscatel presented. Many conversations took place around it and in one of them, the decision to launch it to the market was unanimous.

Casa Agricola Horácio Simões

The centuries-old Casa Agrícola Horácio Simões is not the largest producer in the Setúbal Peninsula, but it is certainly one of the oldest and most reputable in the region. It is here in perfect balance a traditional and almost handmade approach of the ancestors and a thirst of the contemporary generation to try new things.
The winery at Quinta do Anjo is small and disguised as a villa with a shop and coffee shop, where locals like to stay in the shade in the patio for an afternoon drink. When passing in the street you don’t even notice the winery, especially if the gate is closed.
The house has about 40 hectares of own vineyard and has another 30 hectares of partners’ vineyard, besides some grapes bought in the region. The annual production is about 300 thousand litres of still wines, Moscatel de Setúbal and Moscatel Roxo.
