Horácio Simões

This purple muscatel is the result of an intense work distributed between the vineyard and the winery. The vine was accompanied and pampered all the time so that yields did not exceed 2500 litres/ha and the grapes arrived at the winery in the ideal sanitary state and maturation. At the winery, a vinification “proper” for this product was idealized, distinct from what was usual in other companies of the region.
It consists of an intense selection of bunches followed by a pre-fermentative maceration for 5 days, after which the fermentation is allowed to start very slowly homogeneously throughout the vat reaching the ¾ of the fermentation in 3 days, benefiting this wine with the best brandies. Wines available on the market selected by the company’s technicians, followed by a powder maceration of 5 long months. The final stage is carried out in French oak barrels of 225 litres (used 2 to 3 wines), where it is concentrated. For this wine the best barrels were selected.

Casa Agricola Horácio Simões

The centuries-old Casa Agrícola Horácio Simões is not the largest producer in the Setúbal Peninsula, but it is certainly one of the oldest and most reputable in the region. It is here in perfect balance a traditional and almost handmade approach of the ancestors and a thirst of the contemporary generation to try new things.
The winery at Quinta do Anjo is small and disguised as a villa with a shop and coffee shop, where locals like to stay in the shade in the patio for an afternoon drink. When passing in the street you don’t even notice the winery, especially if the gate is closed.
The house has about 40 hectares of own vineyard and has another 30 hectares of partners’ vineyard, besides some grapes bought in the region. The annual production is about 300 thousand litres of still wines, Moscatel de Setúbal and Moscatel Roxo.
