Revista de Vinhos, tasting note published in May 27th 2023

Amber, brownish reflections. Notes of smoke, leather, spice, and tea leaf. Unctuous and salty, it knows how to combine sweetness and acidity. Tense and firm, deep and stubborn, it shows a high-level evolution and a cigar nuance that enhances it in the finish.

Horácio Simões

The “Excellent” Purple Muscat is the result of intense work over the last 10 years divided between the vineyard and the winery. The vineyard was accompanied and pampered all the time so that yields did not exceed 2500 litres/ha and the grapes arrived at the winery in the ideal sanitary state and maturation. At the winery, a vinification “proper” for this product was idealized, distinct from what was usual in other companies of the region. It consists of an intense selection of bunches followed by a prefermentative maceration for 5 days, after which the fermentation is allowed to start very slowly homogeneously throughout the vat reaching the ¾ of the fermentation in 3 days, benefiting this wine with the best brandies available on the market selected by the company’s technicians, followed by a post-fermentative maceration of 5 long months. The final stage is carried out in used French oak barrels of 225 litres, where they will be concentrated for the next 10 years. For this wine the best barrels from the best years of the 2000’s were selected.
