Horácio Simões
This Muscat was made in the year the founder’s great-grandson was born. That same year, there was a revolution in Portugal, so this Muscat was stored in 10- and 15-liter glass demijohns and some paraffin-coated chestnut barrels. This ensured that the wine would not be lost, remaining hidden from sight. Regarding the winemaking method, we only know that ancestral processes were used.
On the occasion of the founder’s son’s 95th birthday, a special moment for the family, this wine was brought to the table. Everyone was astonished by the Moscatel presented. Many conversations revolved around it, and in one of them, the decision to launch it on the market was unanimous.
Winemaking: The Muscat “Excellent” Single Cask results from over 100 years of dedicated work between the vineyard and the winery. The vineyard was carefully tended for decades to ensure yields did not exceed 2,500 liters per hectare. At the winery, a unique winemaking approach was developed specifically for this product, different from the usual methods. The final aging process takes place in a variety of wooden barrels, where the wine concentrates for decades. The Single Cask is the result of the discovery of a barrel with truly unique characteristics.
