O Produtor, tasting note published in March 28th 2023

Its profile is gastronomic, elegant and balanced.
It needs no decanting. With marked acidity, less body and residual sugar, served slightly chilled, it is excellent as an aperitif, with olives, grilled almonds, smoked salmon canapés, tapas, sushi and dried fruits such as almonds and walnuts.

Juan Teixeira | Nuno Duarte

Extra-Reserve.

Island of Madeira (Portugal). Atlantic Ocean.

Soil type :
Volcanic.

Climate:
Temperate with oceanic characteristics, with variation in temperature, humidity and rainfall according to altitude.

Seixal, (Fajã das Contreiras).

Terrain morphology:
Fajã and Lombos.

Vineyard management system:
Latada (generally formed by horizontal wire structures supported by wooden or iron posts).

Vinification :
Juan Teixeira, at the beginning of his career at Justino’s Madeira, vinified these grapes from a plot that had already disappeared, in open bica, without any oenological intervention.
The grapes are completely destemmed, crushed and pressed. The resulting must is then fermented at a controlled temperature in small stainless steel vats. Fermentation is interrupted by the addition of neutral alcohol of vinous origin (960) to obtain the desired degree of sweetness.
The blending was carried out in 2022 with Nuno Duarte, in a style that favours elegance and the natural evolution of the wines.

Maturation | Ageing :
Aged in old 650-litre casks in the traditional “Canteiro” system, from Warehouse/Cellar III.

Store in an upright position, away from direct sunlight and in a moderate atmosphere without great variations in temperature.

Consumption is indeterminate.
Can be kept for several months in good conditions after opening.

Justino's Madeira Wines

Justino’s Madeira Wines, S.A. is one of the oldest producers and exporters of Madeira wine.
The know-how acquired in the art of blending, the respect for traditional winemaking techniques and the constant search for innovation have been the characteristics that mark our success and growth.
Today, we are already an international company recognised for its excellence and focused on presenting premium products to our customers, without losing sight of the history, tradition and authenticity that have always characterised our wines.

Our mission is “Do one thing, but do it well”.

Our motivation is based on our values, our deep connection to the community and tradition, bringing dynamics and innovation to it, in order to produce wines capable of offering unique experiences and sensations that mark the people who come into contact with it, in each of the moments of their lives.

In each glass of wine we bring hundreds of years of ancestral wisdom, of know-how from past generations, of stories and experiences of people, families and human difficulties in this Pearl of the Atlantic, recognisably embellished by the harsh but beautiful landscape, which is still its most striking ex-libris.

We try in each new wine to capture and bring to the customer the heart and soul of each of these people, in unique wines that translate the different terroirs of our island.

Thus, we will pursue our vision of continuing to be the leaders in the commercialisation of Madeira wine, increasing, more and more, the preponderance in the premium sector. Competence, excellence and authenticity are values that guide our performance, and this is what we intend to take to the 4 corners of the world.
