O Produtor, tasting note published in January 4th 2017

The harvest was typical of a year that produces delicious wine. Perfect ripening preserved both freshness and fruit. A pale, brilliant, golden color indicative of its youth. The nose is very pure and fresh with notes of lemon, verbena, and resin. There are also hints of juicy grapefruit, lime blossom, vine flower, and aromas of rose petals, accompanied by nuances of peach, plum, apple, apricot, quince, pastry, and fine oak. The palate opens with delicious flavors of succulent fruits and a sweetness perfectly balanced by fresh nuances of licorice. The structure is smooth and silky, quite voluptuous, with good acidity. Fresh and floral notes combine with grapefruit, pineapple, and pear. A taste of apricot cake and marzipan reveals a slight bitterness. Mandarin orange and preserved lemons emerge before a subtly spicy finish. The elegant aftertaste lingers almost infinitely, yet restrained due to its youth. A perfect balance.

Château de Fargues

In 2010, perfect weather conditions allowed for late ripening, which meant that fresh and fruity aromas were perfectly preserved. A classic harvest for a deliciously gourmet wine. 2010 has all the characteristics of a great vintage.

The harvest was carried out with a total of 5 successive manual selections.

The first picking took place relatively late, on September 27th and 28th, and was completely magnificent. The grapes were concentrated and fresh, with complex aromas. October began with the first of 4 rainy periods that month, followed by bright sunshine and temperatures 3-4°C above average: perfect conditions for the spread of noble rot. The same scenario repeated three times, with sunshine, then cold weather and a northerly wind that dried the grapes. The passes followed one another from October 14th to 19th, and the majority of the harvest occurred from October 17th to 23rd. The 5th and final pass took place on November 4th and 5th, after a long 22-day rainy spell.

Vinification: 100% in barrels with 25 to 30% new wood and the remainder in barrels of one to one and a half years old. Fermentation period of 3 to 5 weeks in barrel, using indigenous yeasts. Aging period of 30 months.

“[…] the 2010 is a clean, frank, and delicate Fargues […] with a good balance on the palate between liquor, sugar, and acidity.”

Château de Fargues

Château de Fargues is a very old wine estate located in the prestigious “Sauternes” appellation, which is known for its unique sweet white wine.

This estate has belonged to the Lur Saluces family since 1472, a unique example of continuity and heritage longevity. The history of this family is intimately linked to that of the region and its wine.

“At Château de Fargues, nature and people work together to produce grapes with a great aromatic palette sensitive to the capricious effects of Botrytis Cinerea, more commonly known as “noble rot”. This microscopic fungus will enhance the unique aromas of the two grape varieties, while revealing the particularities of the terroir. This alchemy, this true complicity, is at the origin of Sauternes, a rare and precious wine, here a “Sauternes signed Fargues”… an invitation to a unique pleasure, a delicious treat, a moment of sharing, a celebration.”
