O Produtor, tasting note published in November 30th 2021

With its straw-gold color, Collection Trésor 1990 shines in the glass with fine, precise bubbles. The nose is very expressive and captivating, offering toasted and even spicy aromas. On the palate, the toasted and smoky notes are complemented by fresh fruits, bringing an exemplary lightness. A hint of licorice elevates the palate and prolongs the pure, exceptionally persistent finish of Collection Trésor 1990. A vintage full of balance and depth.

Boizel

Champagne Boizel’s Collection Trésor brings together the House’s oldest vintages, including a few bottles from the legendary year of 1834. Some of these rare wines, gathered under the name Collection Trésor, are now available in limited quantities to collectors and lovers of old vintages. Disgorged just a few months before leaving the cellar, their aromas have reached perfection during these long years in the Trésor cellar.

With rare aromatic richness, 1990 is a great vintage that today expresses its full character: after more than three decades in the cellars, it presents a subtle union of finesse and power; an impressive balance, characteristic of Champagne Boizel’s expertise.

In the 1990 viticultural year, after a very mild winter and spring, the first buds were hit by frost in April. A very hot and dry summer allowed for the harvest of promising and balanced grapes from mid-September.

Vinification: A blend of 60% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay, and 10% Meunier, vinified in stainless steel tanks. Dosage: 3g per liter, Extra-Brut. Recently disgorged. Aged for more than three decades on the lees.

Main vineyards:
Cumières, Ay, and Bisseuil (Pinot Noir)
Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Avize, and Chouilly (Chardonnay)
Chigny-les-Roses (Meunier)

Food and wine pairing: Only exceptional dishes can match the complexity and fullness of Collection Trésor 1990. A capon with truffles or venison makes a wonderful accompaniment to this champagne, perfectly highlighting its brioche and spice aromas. A delicious fig tart or a lemon tart would also be an excellent match for this great vintage, concluding the meal memorably.

Champagne Boizel

In 1834, Auguste Boizel and Julie Martin, a young married couple, joined forces to create their own Champagne House. Originally pastry chefs, born and raised in the Côte des Blancs, they shared the same strong entrepreneurial spirit. Julie’s ancestors were winegrowers in Ay and Mareuil-sur-Ay, and her dowry included a lease contract in Mareuil-sur-Ay. They chose Épernay as the home for their new venture and both lent their names to the House: ‘Boizel-Martin’.

High standards, generosity, loyalty, and a certain taste for freedom. These values have been central to the Boizel ethos since the creation of the House. High standards in the vineyards and throughout every stage of the winemaking process. Generosity in the way Champagne Boizel seeks to share this authentic, living product with others and opens its doors to visitors so that they can experience the Champagne art-de-vivre. Loyalty to its region, its family history, and also to its partners, customers, and wine lovers from around the world. Finally, the freedom to choose your own path to create sincere and authentic wines.

This philosophy has been passed down from generation to generation and shared by the men and women who have made Champagne Boizel what it is today. It is surely not by chance that the Champagne House has always been run by two, rather than one, pair of hands. That women have always played an equal role to that of the men. And that each generation has succeeded in creating very fine wines, as close as possible to the terroir, breaking with convention, and never hesitating to innovate to craft wines of uncompromising quality. Passion, dedication, a sense of duty, a desire to excel, and independent thinking have formed an unshakeable bond throughout the history of Champagne Boizel, and they continue to do so today.

Every detail counts when it comes to creating sincere and authentic Champagnes. Champagne Boizel’s artisan approach goes hand in hand with its constant quest for excellence and progress. Every day, Florent and Lionel Roques-Boizel strive to create the highest quality wines possible and make the right decisions for the future of this family Champagne House, which will soon be marking its 200th anniversary.

Since its creation in 1834, Champagne Boizel has sought to reveal the very best of the Champagne region in precise and generous wines that reflect the incredible diversity of Champagne’s terroir. Yet what the Boizel family offers is so much more than just its Champagnes. It offers a strong set of values that are reflected in the wines it creates.
