Foot Trodden – Portugal and the Wines that Time Forgot

Foot Trodden is a deep dive into the soul of Portuguese wine, revealing the stories and traditions that have shaped one of Europe’s oldest and most fascinating wine industries. Through an engaging and visually stunning narrative, this book, written in English, explores the rich tapestry of cultures, vineyards, and characters that define Portugal.

From the famous slopes of the Douro Valley and Vinho Verde to the captivating landscapes of the Dão, Lisboa, Alentejo, Colares, Madeira, and beyond, “Foot Trodden” takes readers on a journey that blends the old and the new. Discover how young winemakers are revitalizing native grape varieties and traditional techniques (including foot treading in stone lagares) that have disappeared elsewhere, keeping alive a heritage that dates back at least two millennia.

Written in an accessible narrative style, this book is above all about the people behind the wines: the challenges they faced, what motivates them, and how they managed to put Portugal on the map against all odds.

With eight main chapters and 256 pages in color, illustrated with exclusive photos and a meticulously designed hardcover by Eyal & Myrthe, “Foot Trodden” is a must-read for anyone who wishes to understand the true spirit of Portuguese wine. The map of Portugal, specially hand-drawn by artist Zé Miguel, serves as a guide for this journey through the unique terroirs that make Portugal a wine treasure.
