Roasts

Portuguese cuisine has a great deal of recipes and flavours, and there are hundreds of brilliant roasts you can have in our finest restaurants – but, in our humble opinion, if you have the chance, skip the fancy restaurants and go for a home-made roast. Probably someone’s grandma will make the best roast you will ever had.

With that in mind, we’d say the best pair for roasts will depend mostly on your personal taste.

You can enjoy most roasts either with a young, full-bodied red, or with an older, smoother example (maybe from Dão, Douro or Alentejo). Full-bodied whites, especially oaky ones, or Brut sparkling, might also work well with most traditional roasts in Portugal.
