Grape varieties
Portugal has nearly 300 unique grape varieties, despite its small land territory. On top of this, many of Portuguese wine varieties are know by several names, depending on the region they’re grown. João de Santarém is the same as Periquita, which is the same as Castelão. Likewise, Aragonez is Tinta Roriz. Never heard about it? How about tempranillo? Well, they’re all the same.
Anyway, it is a lot of grape variety, so don’t feel bad it you don’t know them all by heart.
