How to store wine?
Humidity

The reason why you should keep your bottles horizontally so there’s constant contact between wine and cork is that it prevents to cork to dry up and shrink, which would lead to oxygen entering the bottle ruining your wine.

Keeping the bottle down keeps the cork humid inside, but how about the outer side of the bottle?

A humid atmosphere will do the trick, avoiding cork drying. You don’t need to keep your wine in the swimming pool, though: 65%-75% humidity will suffice. If its dryer in your cellar, try keeping a bowl of water close to your wines.
