mini-joao

After the publication of Wine Spectator’s Top 100 (already communicated here), we ran out of stock for some years of harvest. It was the case of Porca de Murça 2013, which was totally sold out.

To understand if the harvest of 2014 is of the same quality, I decided to taste it during my lunch. I had it with octopus fillets and rice with vegetables. It felt very good, light and fruity (black fruit), soft tannins, medium body and fresh.

On the day after, coming to the same restaurant, I got lucky. They still had a few bottles of 2013 – the winning year – so I decided to have a second tasting to have a more direct comparison. This time, the 2013 harvest went with pork meat. It is a light, with slightly more fruity (red and black fruit), some toast, soft tannins, medium body and equally fresh.

The story says that was a wild big pig (Porca, in Portuguese) that used to destroy the properties and to attack small animals. Being a nightmare for the inhabitants of the village of Murça, mans tried to catch it, but its agility did not make it easy for the hunters. Nowadays, exists a statue in the village’s center and a wine called Porca de Murça, as a tribute to this animal.

This Porca de Murça was definitely a great surprise. The consistency of the two harvests is notable on this wine, both being tasty, affordable and very balanced.

Decidedly, a great option for a day to day basis.

Cheers!
