For a memorable wedding day, not only for your fiancé, but also for your guests, it is very important to plan properly. There are lots of things to do and to think about and you might end up forgetting some important details. This article intends to solve one of those – choosing drinks – so you won’t look bad during your great day!

Here’s our word of advice – now just grab a glass of wine, relax, and take note of these simple steps:

  1. Who will be invited? Your family and friends. You know them, so try to remember their taste! Plan to your linking, of course, but don’t forget about your guests’ preferences – after all, it is also their party.
  2. Are you expecting many children and elders? Or folks between their mid-20s and 60’s? Make sure that there will be enough variety, from non-alcoholic soft drinks to regular table, sparkling and Port wines, in order to please everyone.
  3. Should I buy 10 or 100 bottles? You must not forget to provide variety, quality and quantity – so you might as well plan on having a few spare bottles, just in case your guests turn out to be a little thirstier than usual.
  4. Will the party be during the day or night time? Or will it be all night long? Daytime parties ask for fresh whites, soft reds and some rosés. If it’s by night, you might choose richer, full-bodied whites and reds.
  5. Will you make it big or intimate? Quick rule-of-thumb: one bottle of wine for every 2 guests – the same goes for sparkling wine, cake toasts included. Regarding wine color, we suggest you to provide 60% of red wines and 40% of whites.
  6. Are you counting on a warm day, or expecting some cool weather? A hot day asks for cold drinks, like white, sparkling and rosés wines. Otherwise, cold weather feels better with full-bodied wines. Sparkling wine, a drink to celebrate, will always be welcome!
  7. What kind of food will be served? For meat dishes the best choice is red wine; for fish, shellfish and pasta, you may chose a white wine. For appetizers, sparkling wines, light white ones or a white tonic Port are ideal. To harmonize with dessert, you can choose a moscatel or a late harvest wine. For better tasting, make sure all the wines are served at the right temperature: about 14ºC for light red wines, 16ºC for strong reds and 8ºC for white, rosés and sparkling wines.

Finally, wine is a must-have, but don’t forget there are kids and other people who can’t or won’t have alcoholic beverages, so make sure you provide them with a reasonable selection of water, natural juices and sodas.
