Laughing is good for your health, or at least, when we laugh, we feel better.

In the Ted Talk “Why We Laugh,” cognitive neuroscientist Sophie Scott shares surprising facts about laughter.

Did you know that we are 30 times more likely to laugh when we are with someone than when we are alone? That where we find the most laughter is in social interactions, such as conversations? That if you ask someone, “When do you laugh?” they will talk about comedy, humor, and jokes, but if you observe them when they laugh, they will be laughing with their friends. And that when we laugh with people, we rarely laugh at jokes. We laugh to show people that we understand them, that we agree with them, that we are part of the same group. We laugh to show that we like them.

Laughter is contagious, it can be involuntary or social, it creates bonds, shapes emotions.

To celebrate International Day of Laughter, which is marked on January 18, laugh as much as you can; watch a good comedy or gather friends to share funny stories with each other, always with a glass of good wine. Just as laughter is a social tool, wine also appreciates good company.

And watch this wine tasting that went viral on TikTok; a waiter can’t control his laughter as the customer tastes the wine he had ordered.

The video was shared by the singer Dries Roelvink himself, proving that laughter is contagious, and he ends up laughing too.

Have a joyful International Day of Laughter 2024! Because laughter is the best medicine.

Cheers with our sparkling wines!
