Watch a movie, have a nice glass of wine and enjoy a nice cuban cigar are the things that entertain me the most.

To pair with a good wine, I will start sharing some films that have the wine as the main character. This week I start with two suggestions:

Bottle Shock

Directed by Randall Miller, it is a movie inspired by a true story which shows the beginning of the wine industry in California, during the 70s.

The wine specialist Steven Spurrier, founder of “Academie du Vin” and Decanter Magazine journalist, believed that French wines were the more delicate and fine wines in the world.

In 1976, it changed the history of wine forever.

Believing that the small producer from Napa Valley and their wines were not at the same level of the best French vintages, he creates a wine contest that became know as “the judgement of Paris”, a blind tasting of French and American wines…

To pair with this film, I recommend the White Wine Cova da Ursa Chardonnay.

Sideways

It is a comedy-drama by Alexander Payne. It tells a story of a frustrated writer, recently divorced and passionate about wine, and his best friend, that knows nothing about wine.

They decide to start a trip for bachelor party, doing a “route of California Wines”. During the trip, while tasting lots of different wine, they eventually meet two women, and one of them truly influences the writer’s life.

To have with this film, I recommend the Red Wine Quinta de Cidrô Pinot Noir.

Cheers, and good movies!
