Organizing or be invited for a party is exciting and fun. However, choosing the right wine is stressful and scary.

There is always the risk that the wine we chose is not appreciated by the guests but, to help you avoiding it, we give you a few tips:

1- choose with intention

We should always be sure the wine is appreciated by the host, at least. To know that we should find out which is his favorite style or brand. If the host is not a wine appreciator, knowing which food is going to be served is a good help.

2- make an impact

It is fun when we take a wine that has an impact and creates buz between guests. Nothing better than sharing and involve the guests with a Magnum (1,5 liters) or double magnum (3 liters) bottle. It will “break the ice”.

3- wine with a story

A wine with history, made on a different way, come from an uncommon region is also a good way to impress. An old wine, a Late Harvest, a Port Wine, a Red wine made from white grapes, or a vintage from the hosts’ year of birth are great examples.

4- Conheça os convidados

Bringing an expensive wine when guests do not really appreciate wine is a common mistake. Or bringing beer for a party when beer is “queen” is not a good option also. Alternatively, bring a cheaper wine that is easy to drink and everybody can enjoy.

5- Communicate

It is very uncomfortable when we are asked by the host if a wine “is to keep” or “to open later”. To avoid that we should be clear and explain it is a gift or it is supposed to be shared with the guests.

6- choose sparkling

In case you are in doubt, choose the wine of celebration. It goes well with almost everything, it is not expensive and nothing will go wrong. It is a safe choice.

Cheers!
